Rebuilding strength through pregnancy and postpartum brought me here and drove me to learn more about how Pilates helped me reconnect with my body and build strength.
I quickly realised that this concept was applicable to everyone, whether you are recovering from injury, illness, surgery, or pregnancy.
Through all stages of life, we can all relate to the idea that we change; our bodies adapt. This is at the very core of how I teach: bodies can change, movement patterns can be rewired, freedom of movement can be restored.
We just don’t buy into the premise that because you’re in a group exercise environment, you should be moving as a group!
We are all different, so we acknowledge those differences and guide you to move in a way that feels right for you.
Observing movement has always been part of my life, from a young dancer to a career performing and then lecturing dance. Pilates taught me that moving well, is about what it feels like and not what it looks like.
Creating a welcoming community for all bodies
We are recommended by local osteopaths and physiotherapists, and with their support, we can offer you a co-care approach. Ensuring that your experience is suitable to your own rehabilitation and injury prevention and sharing our application of biomechanics with their knowledge on rehabilitation protocols.
Through stages of life, we can all relate to the idea that we change; our bodies adapt. We teach with that at our core: bodies can change, movement patterns can be rewired, freedom of movement can be restored.

Mel
Mel is the founder and owner of MelPilates.
She discovered Pilates in 2008 after the birth of her first son, drawn to a method that supported her considered return to strength.
She has taught Pilates since 2013. Before that, she worked both as a Professional dancer and as a Lecturer in Dance in a vocational setting. She completed her Mat work training with Polestar in 2010, Reformer training in 2016, and ultimately the Polestar Comprehensive programme in 2019.
Mel’s teaching is rooted in curiosity and lived movement experience. Her group classes emphasise choice, autonomy, and exploration. This helps participants move instinctively and with greater ease.
When she’s not teaching Pilates, you will usually find her drinking coffee, cheering on GB at the track and field, or catching a musical!
Amy
Amy’s interest in Pilates began after qualifying as a personal trainer in 2005. Having established herself as a PT, she was drawn to helping people build strength and improve their health and well-being, particularly in relation to the spine.
Movement has always been a big part of Amy’s life. As a child, she enjoyed gymnastics and dance, and Pilates felt like a natural progression. She qualified as a Pilates instructor in 2007 and, after having two children, began teaching in 2016.
Amy has been working alongside Mel since 2017 and loves being part of a team. “I feel so lucky to teach in a lovely venue, and most importantly, such lovely clients. Seeing the positive changes people experience through Pilates remains the most rewarding part of teaching. I aim for people to leave my class feeling warm, relaxed, stronger and better in their bodies”.
When Amy isn’t teaching, you’ll find her in the gym working out, spending time with her children, meeting up with friends and going for walks with her much-loved Maltipoo, Rocco!
